Adam Connor's 'Family Portrait' shows how narwhals + horses create Olan-Mills-quality beauty
.
Last year, artist Adam Connor created the piece above for our Unicorn-Art-Mix charity art show to benefit filmmaking-and-youth nonprofit Sailbear Labs and celebrate the release of the humorous how-to guide Raising Unicorns.
Today, Adam Connor's piece is featured on both Archie McPhee's Geyser of Awesome and Wired's Tumblr.
Yay Adam!
And yay interspecial love!

Oh Expletive: A self-censoring-titled illustration series full of unicorns, zombies, and 8-bit awesomeness

Oh, Phoenix-based graphic designer Safwat Saleem, how we adore your ice-cream-laced-with-whiskey sense of humor! Not only did you debut the above unicorn print at the Unicorn-Art-Mix book release party for Raising Unicorns (and fundraiser for nonprofit Sailbear Labs, for whom you also designed their logo), but now you have a series of these posters featuring everything sharks to dinosaurs to knife fights!
Want your own poster? Safwat is inviting you to join his Kickstarter campaign to make this series an expletive-filled reality. Click on the graphic above for more info!
Don't want your own poster? Then don't click on the graphic above. Because if you click on it, you'll probably end up wanting your own poster. Just warning you.

Today's the day: Unicorn-Art-Mix book release party and unicorn-themed art show in Phoenix!

By Wynter HoldenHaving a wild imagination is a good thing, if you’re five years old. Insist you see leprechauns, fairies, or unicorns when you’re an adult, on the other hand, and you’ll soon find yourself in a padded room. That is, unless you approach the situation with a little humor.
Jessica Marquis, author of Raising Unicorns: Your Step-by-Step Guide to Starting and Running a Successful - and Magical! - Unicorn Farm, not only believes the one-horned creatures exist, but that you can make money off them. “Why did I write about unicorns? Because I figured it was about time people learned how to raise 'em and raise 'em right,” she quips. While obviously tongue-in-cheek, the book is written in the style of a serious business manual.
In celebration of the tome’s release, Marquis is hosting an imaginative art show titled Unicorn Art Mix on Friday, August 12, at CO+HOOTS. Peep “real” unicorns including plush dolls by local designer Nina Miller, a talking robot, and themed prints from the book’s illustrator, Kevin Hedgpeth.

Unicornomics presents... Unicorn-Art-Mix, a unicorn-themed art show!
The awesome graphic above, courtesy of cartoonist and Center for Cartoon Studies alum Steve Seck, will be one of many works of art featured at the Unicorn-Art-Mix art show opening Friday, 8.12.11, in Phoenix, AZ, at Co+Hoots.
This family-friendly show will feature various works of art, from jewelry to sculpture to prints, featuring...well, unicorns, of course.
Why?
We have two reasons (as if we need even one!):
1. To raise money for the up-and-coming nonprofit Sailbear Labs, Inc. - 501(c)(3) pending - which assists kids in exploring creativity and the visual/entertainment arts, and
2. To celebrate the book release of the humorous how-to guide Raising Unicorns.
